The president of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Committee of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (BH K CIGRE), Zijad Bajramović, stated that there is great interest in the concept of building solar power plants, reports klix.ba.
He said that despite the challenges, it is expected that solar power plants with a capacity of 1,500 MW (megawatts) will be built in Bosnia and Herzegovina over the next three to four years, which will produce around 2 TWh (terawatt-hours) of electricity annually.
“As for renewable energy sources, we are practically just at the beginning. We only have three more serious wind farms and several solar power plants. Soon, another large wind farm is expected to come online, and over the next four years, we expect around 1,500 MW of solar power plants and 700 MW of wind farm capacity, which will provide around 4 TWh of energy. This energy is roughly a quarter of the current electricity production, which in these years amounts to around 16 TWh,” said Bajramović.
The great interest in building solar power plants and how to balance that energy is one of the key challenges in the field of electricity distribution. Current issues, as Bajramović added, also relate to the resilience of distribution systems, innovations in distribution system components, and the legal separation of distribution activities.
Bajramović and members of the Management Board of BH K CIGRE today, during a meeting in Sarajevo, also discussed the preparations and organization of the fourth consultation of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian Committee of the International Conference on Electricity Distribution (BH K CIRED), which will be held on October 21 and 22 in Mostar, where more than 70 papers authored by over 200 experts and scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and countries in the region will be presented.
